Frame:Work | About

WHY FRAME:WORK

frame:work exists because the digital labor of our work is distinctly human. The screens, the wires, and the racks of gear are the visible layer; underneath is the judgment, craft, and collaboration of the people who make pixels perform in physical space. We built this organization so those people have a home: a place to be recognized, to learn from each other, and to remind the industry that what we do is beyond what our technology represents.

Community Values

Stay Human

Tech is our common language. but humanity is ultimately our common cause. It is imperative that we embrace honest failure over performative success.

Be Useful

Human creativity is a precious resource that should be nurtured and shared, not because it is scarce, but because when catalysized through collaboration it becomes ever more substanive and abundant.

Don’t Stop

Stay curious, ambitious, generative and generous. We work hard to make LIVE easy.

Break Boundaries

We work outside the 16:9 box; we play at the edges of possibility. We leverage technology in service of human creativity.

FOUNDERS CORNER

"All flourishing is mutual."
— Robin Wall Kimmerer

This is a small field. We compete for the same projects, while sharing the knowledge with each other that wins them. frame:work exists to protect that instinct, because none of us flourishes alone.

Our History

frame:work was founded in 2019 around a piece of gear: the media server. The people who worked with these systems bonded with each other on show sites. Designers whose content lived on the servers. Engineers who took signals from them. The programmers, producers, and content managers who ran them day to day. We were mostly live event professionals solving similar problems on different shows, with limited shared places to compare notes. frame:work gave that community a home, somewhere to learn from each other, to demystify our work for the clients who hire us, and to mentor the people who wanted to build these skills themselves.

As media servers found their way into partner industries, our community grew with them. Virtual production brought entertainment playback and tracking onto film sets. Architectural and experiential installations called for entertainment-grade show control and playback infrastructure. Our community had the knowledge base and the skill set to drive that work, and our numbers widened with every new market.

Media servers have never existed in a vacuum. The craft demands an understanding of video signal infrastructure, networking, and the show control systems that surround the server, as well as the ability to collaborate with the partner disciplines of creative video production. Video display doesn't exist without sound, light, architecture, and audience. Our reach extends to pixel arts beyond the 16:9 frame.

We call ourselves the home of live pixel people, but at the root we are the community that understands how pixels operate in space, whether that space is a stage, an airport lobby, or a film set.

Pixels, Practice and

possibility.

The professional society for the people who combine pixels with physical space.
